Biography

Andy joined the Business School at Bournemouth University as Professor of Financial Economics and Deputy Dean Research from the University of Birmingham on 1st April 2013. At the University of Birmingham, he became Professor of Money, Banking and Finance in the Department of Economics in the School of Social Sciences in 1997, where he served as Director of the M.Sc and B.Sc. Money, Banking and Finance programmes. He became Deputy Head of the School of Social Sciences (Resources) in 1996 and served as Head of School 1997-2000. Andy then joined the Business School as Professor of Global Finance and Director of the MBA Global Finance programme in May 2001 before serving as Director of the Finace Research Group and Finance Research Director in the Department of Accounting and Finance.

Research

Currently engaged in the final (reporting) stages of the highly succesful ESRC sponsored 'EREBUS' (Engaging REsearch for BUSiness development) Capacity Building Cluster research project with the Birmingham, Aston and Warwick Business Schools and the AHRC sponsored 'FinCris 'project with the Philosophy Departmant at the University of Warwick and the Social Policy group (CHASM) at the University of Birmingham. I am a co-investigator in charge of the 'Taxing Banks Fairly' work stream' which reports end 2014.

On behalf of the ESRC and Bank of Englanad sponsored Money, Macro, Finance (MMF)Research Group, of which I am a committee memeber, currently organising a 'Round Table' (Panel) Session for the June 2014 conference of the GdRE Eurpoean Money and Banking conference in Lyon on 'Have we made banking good?' (through re-regulation).

Currently completing a report for the African Development Bank on the prospects for monetary unions in Africa in light of lessons form the 'Eurozone Crisis', the subject of the 2012 Panel Session I organised at the GdRE conference in Nantes. I will present a paper derived form that report at the African Economic Development Conference in Cape Town in November 2014 and presented a paper based on a September 2012 report for the AfDB (entitled: 'Enterprise finaning: lesssons for Sub-Saharan Africa') at an African Finance Journal conference in Durban in June 2013. Also working on a report on the Panel on 'Restoring the bank lending channel' I organised at the 2013 GdRE conference in poitiers.
