Abstract:

To enhance the region matching for auto coloring characters with occlusion, a character registration approach is proposed in this paper for 2D animation. After manually registering the skeleton and topology graph of the character in one frame with a general topology model, all skeletons in other frames are automatically matched and registered based on the proposed geometric- and topological-based matching algorithm. Occlusion can then be detected and located in components segmented from the character. Subsequently, two approaches are applied to color regions in components without and with occlusion respectively. Inaccurate matching due to the occlusion is tackled, making the auto coloring approach more robust, as shown by a number of examples.
