Abstract:

As part of Thomas's ongoing work on online reading communities, this chapter explores the contributions of readers and fans of the American author Mark Z. Danielewski, examining their preoccupations and interrelations, and arguing that their insights into and interpretations of the novels offer a valuable resource which may be placed alongside the work of more established literary critics and members of the academy. The volume brings together some key theorists of postmodern and new media writing, and the chapter has led to further research on online literary communities, including an AHRC funded project, Researching Readers Online.
