Abstract:

Forensic Science incorporates the analysis of a wide range of materials associated with many different and unique case scenarios. Advances in technology have increased the scope of the forensic analyst enabling a vast amount of information to be generated for consideration in any particular case but our analytical results are only useful if they can be interpreted. The questions facing the forensic scientist are “what does it all mean within the context of a particular and unique set of case circumstances?” This paper will consider the challenges associated with the interpretation of scientific evidence using the speciality of toxicology as an example.
