Abstract:

Wherever possible and appropriate, children who have complex and continuing health needs should be enabled to live at home, and to be a part of their family and community (Department of Health, 2004). However, to achieve this, they and their families often require support from health and social care staff for a significant proportion of the day: sometimes a full twenty four hours. Working in this way can present specific challenges as well as rewards for staff. © Copyright JCN 2009.
