Abstract:

The compound 1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenyl-2-ethylidene-pyrrolidine, known as a urinary metabolite of methadone, is formed during the extraction of methadone from human urine when impure diethyl ether is used as the extracting solvent. Reaction between methadone and diethyl ether enriched with peroxides provides a simple and rapid method for the preparation of 1,5-dimethyl,-3,3-diphenyl-2-ethylidene-pyrrolidine. © 1976, Forensic Science Society.
