Research

I specialise in applied economics. The project I am currently working on, involves studying the effect of tourism taxation on consumer behaviour. The team includes Prof S. Page, BU and Prof H. Song, a senior researcher from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Our paper which investigated the effect of the Air Passenger Duty on demand for outbound tourism from the UK was published by the Journal of Travel Research (JTR) in Aug 2013. I am currently also working on a paper which discusses the impact of exchange rate appreciation on the Australian airline industry with Prof Peter Forsyth, Monash University. My latest book ‘Recent Development in Economics of Tourism’ which I co-edited with Prof L. Dwyer from the University of New South Wales, Australia was published by Edward Elgar Publishing in July, 2013. In Oct 2013, I joined the editorial board of the academic journal Tourism Economics. I continue to serve of the editorial board of the JTR. If you are interested in research related to tourism demand and/or tourism taxation please get in touch with me on: nseetaram@bournemouth.ac.uk
