Following a career in newspaper publishing,I decided on a change and went to work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in Mental Health. I qualified as an Occupational Therapist via the in-service route in 2001. My clinical experience is predominantly within Mental Health services; Community Mental Health, Assertive Outreach, Older peoples Functional services. From 2006 -2014 I worked in a Crisis Resolution Team and it was during this time that I completed my PhD; a Foucauldian inspired discourse analysis of mental health policy, research and service user narrative around the introduction of Crisis Resolution Teams - and how they relate to concepts from Occupational Science.
I was also part of the Rapid Improvement Team, tasked with analysing and reconfiguring the Acute Care Pathway within the Trust.
I joined Northumbria University as a Lecturer, at the end of 2014; through my interest in the Occupational perspective of social and community life I was able to contribute to the development of a more Occupation-focused curriculum and student research themes.
