Dates: 31 March 2011

Publisher: Bournemouth University

Abstract:

Rallye Sunseeker is the largest stage car rally in the South of England and has been visiting the region's forests around Poole and Bournemouth for more than twenty years. In 2009 the Motor Sport Research Group of the School of Tourism at Bournemouth University was commissioned by the organisers to analyse the economic impact of the event in the tourist areas of Dorset and Hampshire. The findings were used by the organising committee to impress on local government in the region the contribution of Rallye Sunseeker to tourism out of season. Dr Bruce Grant-Braham, Director of the Motor Sport Research Group, will outline the methodology used and how the outcomes not only attracted further research bids but helped Rallye Sunseeker to be promoted to the British Rally Championship for 2011.
