Abstract:

In this research a set of combined novel mechano-electrochemical equations were developed to predict the corrosion rates of nanocomposite coatings. The model was based on the observations recorded from experimentation. A detailed experimental study was conducted by using nanocomposite coatings: Ni/Al2O3, Ni/SiC, Ni/ZrO2 and Ni/Graphene. The effects of distinct mechanical properties of each coatings on their electrochemical-corrosion behaviour was analysed by subjecting them to the accelerated corrosion testing. The SEM, EDS, XRD were used for nano-characterisation of coatings while EIS method was deployed for corrosion measurements. Finally, the model was validated by qualitative comparison between experimental and predicted results.
