Experiential learning: An evaluation of a dementia training approach in a national care organisation

Abstract:Studies of dementia care identify gaps in staff knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Appropriate training is required to improve the delivery of care and is a UK Government priority. Four Seasons Health care and Bournemouth University developed, implemented, and evaluated the ‘Our approach to dementia care’ programme in over 50 residential and nursing care homes across England. During the workshop, we will share the training approach, findings from the evaluation study and invite attendees to participate in an experiential learning exercise designed to increase empathy and understanding of the importance of life story in delivering effective care.
