Note. Screendance triptych

Authors: Sykes, E.

Abstract:

This practice based, site specific cross arts piece is an enquiry into the relationship between dancer and music within the realm of screendance. Note is a dance for camera triptych performed by dancer/choreographer Cathy Seago. This work is the result of a continuing collaboration between Sykes and Seago. The shapes and movement within this film are informed by ‘Looking Glass’, a performance devised and performed in the same location, The Study Gallery, Dorset.

On screen, Cathy Seago is silhouetted in an empty art gallery. Behind her the gallery interior forms a series of horizontal lines. Conceptually, Cathy becomes a note on a page. She moves slowly, part shadow puppet, partly in response to the shapes of the gallery. This work has formed part of a performance at Walford Mill as part of Dorset Arts Weeks and at the Patravati Theatre in Bangkok. At Walford Mill, Cathy Stevens and Udo Dzierzanowski create a live musical composition in response to this piece.
