Abstract:

THE LOW MELTING POINT ALLOY USED IN BENDING THE PIPE PENETRATED ALONG THE GRAIN BOUNDARIES DESPITE THE INNER SURFACE OFTHE PIPE BEING PROTECTED BY BARRIER TAPE. WHEN SUBJECT TO TENSILE STRESSES IN THE WELD COOLING CYCLE, THE MOLTEN GRAIN BOUNDARIES OPENED UP, LEADING TO INTERGRANULAR FAILURE.
