Abstract:

Stroke remains one of the major causes of death in the UK, with its surviving victims usually suffering from a long term of disability which requires rehabilitation. In this paper, we describe the development of a serious game prototype for post-stroke rehabilitation using Microsoft’s Kinect depth sensor with its potential capability of robust marker-less real-time full-body skeletal tracking. The serious game prototype was proposed aiming at encouraging stroke patients with motor deficits to carry on physical exercises together with other possible therapies in a highly motivating virtual environment.
