Abstract:

It is recognised that meeting the needs of relatives is integral to holistic care in the intensive care unit. Failure to identify and meet these needs may be detrimental to the relationship between relatives and the care team and also to patient care. This study identifies the needs of relatives of patients admitted to a neurosciences critical care unit. Relatives, nurses and doctors differed in how well they perceived the needs were being met and who should be meeting them.
