Abstract:

The Intensive Psychological Therapies Service (IPTS) was one of the first specialist personality disorder (PD) services of its kind in the country and this year it is celebrating 15 years of providing successful therapeutic interventions to a hard-to-reach client population. This article describes the specialist service and why we should continue to value it. It discusses the key areas that have contributed to the services survival, and describes the difficulties associated with running a specialist PD service under the current financial pressures being felt in mental health trusts.
