Abstract:

Innovative pedagogical provisions allow global educators and learners to get a deeper knowledge of the climate and ecological crisis, enhancing their awareness of opportunities for actions for protecting and sustaining our planet.

This poster presents the work on a project funded by the British Council that aims to create a multi-media SDG13-Climate Action module in English and Vietnamese capturing teaching practices of academics from Bournemouth University (BU) and The University of Transport and Communications, VietNam. This resource offers examples of transferrable learning and assessment materials from various subject disciplines with ideas on pedagogic practice and support for a cross-university and cross-disciplinary Community of Practice that builds institutional capacity for Education for Sustainable Development.

The outcomes of the first stage focus on the practices in the BU Business School, and highlight the importance of institutional culture toward sustainability, a resource library, and action-oriented tasks. These findings contribute to understanding the interplay of various knowledge captured by the TPACK (Technology-Pedagogy-Content Knowledge) framework. It is transferrable to different disciplinary contexts, enabling it as a model to incorporate the 17 SDGs in education practice. Further, the project ensures low-carbon collaboration while allowing the growth of the community of interested educators and learners in using and contributing to the module.
