Abstract:In this chapter we focus on the experience of visiting one type of heritage place: the ruined medieval castle. Whilst architectural styles vary, castles are common throughout Europe where they have become emblematic not only of the middle ages but of ruins in general, and the way they are represented and experienced as cultural objects.
