Abstract:

The surge in the wave of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has made digital competence a key competence of lifelong learning. Digital competence has become a necessary skill needed to traverse the demands of the 21st-century workplace. Much research has shown that the acquisition of this skill leads to improved organizational performance. Research also abounds that shows that organizational agility has a positive impact on organizational performance. However, scant literature studies the impact of digital competence on organizational agility and the possible nexus among digital competence, organizational agility, and organizational performance. The question of how digital competence births agile organization which in turn leads to organizational performance is the focus of this paper. The paper argues that there is a multidirectional relationship among the three. It is argued that while digital competence can lead to positive organizational performance as well as impact on the agility of an organization, digital competence can also bring about better organizational agility, which will, in turn, lead to better organizational performance.
