Abstract:The drive toward carbon reduction has formed the focus of discussion around global energy use. There has been a renewed call for the deployment of technologies that aid energy consumption reduction while ensuring that energy pricing, efficiency, and conservation are positively affected. This explains why the attention has been directed at technological innovation. Since technology will play a very vital role for the design and implementation of emission mitigation strategies, it is crucial that policymakers have robust knowledge on the factors and mechanisms that enhance or hinder technological integration, and the role that public policies will be taking in this effort at technological integration. Choosing the right set of policy instruments is very important in this regard. This chapter argues that the deployment of advanced technology will determine the direction of future energy policy design. This chapter noted the various strands of technological innovation that will impact energy consumption and argued that there is a need for strong governance system on the part of government, integration of best ethical practices, as well as a robust partnership with the private sector so as to deliver the gains of advanced technology.
