Abstract:

Participation in civic life is largely due to the mobilization strategies employed by political organizations. Mobilization should be examined from at least two perspectives: the supply side, as a mobilizing entity looking to enhance or discourage participation; and the demand side, the receivers of mobilization efforts. We follow this logic in our understanding and development of the term. Organizations design and disseminate calls to action, which are attempts at engaging citizens and persuading them to perform actions that aid in meeting the outcomes of the campaign. Research suggests that citizens respond to calls differently depending on their characteristics and motivations.
