Peer and Self – Assessment using Computer Assisted Self & Peer Assessment Ratings (CASPAR)

Authors: Henderson, H.E.

Conference: AEME - Huddersfield Conference

Dates: 19 July 2009

Abstract:

Peer and self-assessment is a well-documented concept within Higher Education. Literature promotes this use of this assessment methodology but is also weary of the limitations observed within practice of the application, results and bias. This case study paper represents an overview of peer and self-assessment with particular emphasis of the use of an online peer and self-assessment. A case study with practical evidence of the author’s context is presented, reflecting on the implementation of peer and self-assessment in an undergraduate unit, using a cohort of Level I BA Event Management students in pre-selected groups, over two assessment points. This case study sets a means to investigate whether the issues are with the product or the process.
