Text classification using combination of classifiers and classifier ensembles

Abstract:One of the major tasks in information retrieval is Text Categorization or Document Classification. There has been a lot of research to develop efficient classifiers for text classification. However the classifiers are limited in their application to specific domains. A recent trend in developing new classification techniques is to combine different techniques with the intention to use the best features of the component classification techniques for better performance. These hybrid approaches diminish each classifier's individual limitations. This paper describes the process of text classification followed by an overview of popularly used techniques. This paper also reviews the approaches to combine different classifiers for improved performance in text classification.
