Abstract:

Global Solar radiation is essential for generation of photovoltaic energy and in designing of solar systems. Solar systems/grids are often integrated with conventional utility grids to meet electricity demands. As solar radiation is intermittent its forecasting becomes necessary because the availability of solar radiation indirectly affects the cause of integrating solar systems/grids with the utility grid systems and thereby helping to find a balance between the electricity demand and supply. The study presents an extreme learning machine (ELM) based approach to forecast global horizontal solar radiation on daily basis using several meteorological parameters for the city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir and comparing it with approaches which rest on Artificial Neural Networks with Levenberg Marquardt learning and Support Vector Regression.
