Abstract:The purpose of this study is to make an assessment of the family understanding and Turkish Family in terms of socio-cultural reality. The aim is to understand the changes have had Turkish family, the causes and effects of these changes and to contribute to find solutions to the growing problems in the family. Historical method is used in this study and the variables that perform formation, transformation and development of contemporary Turkish Family was examined. According to findings, the structure of Turkish family occurs in the form of the Turkish-Islamic synthesis and gradually entering in a process of change towards a modern Western family with 'modern-traditional' features, it is called transitional family. As a result, such a family with traditional features meets the spiritual needs of members by providing solidarism, a warm, safe and loving environment. However, it also emerged under the influence of socio-economic conditions, the change of roles in the family, the sharing of authority and the changing status of women as a result, caused an increase in problems such as disagreements, conflicts, violence, lack of communication, loss in values, isolation, alienation, corruption and lack of interest.
