Abstract:

The dynamic behaviour of a vacuum phenomenon at the L4/5 disc level in a patient with back pain was seen by digital videofluoroscopy. Detailed motion analysis in this 57-year-old female patient with back pain revealed a stable spine with hypomobility in sidebending at the L4/5 level. The presence of the vacuum phenomenon contributed little, if anything, to appreciation of the mechanical components of this patient's back pain. Its contribution as a mechanical indicator is questioned.
