Abstract:

For assessing the effect of various factors which have contributed to the loss of our natural resources particularly medicinal plant wealth, a detailed survey by way of enlisting medicinal flora at six localities of Tangmarg, 12 km downstream of famous tourist resort Gulmarg (39 km north of Srinagar) was conducted. Since a great variety of medicinal plants have been exposed to increased anthropogenic pressures, as a result large number of important species have become threatened and even some have become critically endangered. Out of total 62 medicinal plants enlisted in the present study, 6 were found to be critically endangered (CR), 10 endangered (EN), 06 vulnerable (VU), 27 rare (R) and 13 secure (S).
