Abstract:

The following paper briefly introduces the three contributions to this issue on "Notions of Change". Furthermore, some of the basic concepts with which this issue is concerned are discussed. These are the question of how to demarcate historical eras, the question of the range of theories in the social sciences and the question of the problematic entanglement of theories in the social sciences with hegemonic discourses that proclaim a distinctive newness of the respective present.
