Abstract:

At one level, audit can be seen as a technical exercise designed to measure and report back on performance. However, on another level, the audit process can be seen to hold a transformative power, thus holding the potential to significantly change the nature of work and the standard operating procedures of organizations. This paper draws on empirical data collected from outreach drug work to examine the transformative nature of the audit process. © 2005 Taylor & Francis Group Ltd.
