Abstract:

Nursing is a practice discipline. Students need a strong grounding in the art and science of nursing, facilitated by nurse experts based in clinical practice and education settings. University-based nursing programmes need a regular influx of clinicians to transition to nurse lecturer roles to contribute to the clinical currency of what is taught. However, making the move from the familiar world of clinical practice to university life may seem a daunting prospect. This article will explore some benefits and challenges of that transition, drawing on the reflections of three new nurse lecturers from one university.
