Abstract:This reflective account seeks to explore experiences of counselling childbearing women and people regarding their mental health in pregnancy. It is used to evidence the use of patient and public involvement in my research project looking at what influences women and birthing people’s decisions on the use of prescribed psychiatric medication (PPM) during pregnancy. My experience as a registered midwife and discussions I have had with birthing people in practice highlights a gap in service provision and this has prompted my desire to work towards a piece of research to capture women and birthing people’s voices about mental health care during pregnancy. This reflective piece follows Gibb’s reflective writing cycle.1.
