Abstract:

The introduction to this special section identifies the need for a renewed focus on the sociological study of the relationship between “religion” and “science,” however these terms might be operationalized. The necessity of better understanding this relationship, it is argued, requires exploration beyond the US and Europe as well as recognition of the potential benefits of new approaches in the contexts where analyses of the religion-science relationship have often been focused. This introduction briefly summarizes the three articles that make up this special section, where each article contributes an analysis that either explores contexts beyond the US and Europe and/or approaches such contexts in new ways.
