Maynard is an award-winning professional journalist with 17 years of experience. He is a documentary filmmaker. He has a Master's in Documentary Journalism from Nottingham Trent University. Within the UK, his work has been featured in national titles like the Daily Mirror, Daily Star, Express, and The Voice. His work also appears in 37 regional titles across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He has two documentaries on the BBC World Service and BBC.

Before moving to the UK, Maynard's work was featured in some of the biggest media organisations in Africa and the US. His research interests are in digital technologies, their impact on journalism culture and practice, and the future of ethical reporting.
