Abstract:Pregnancy is often a time that women seek out support and advice from others. As a midwife who provides an aquanatal class in the South of England, I was interested to know what motivates pregnant women to attend midwife-led aquanatal exercise classes and what benefits, if any, they experience.
Networking with other pregnant women in an informal group setting may be important in providing social support beyond that received from family, friends and work colleagues. Social support could therefore be significant during a woman's complex transition to motherhood.
This poster presentation will identify why a singular, qualitative case study approach has been adopted to explore this phenomenon concentrating on a small group of women attending a series of aquanatal sessions. Exploration of the researcher as the midwife leading the aquanatal classess will also be examined.
