Abstract:

A bridge structure was proposed to connect Bradford Cathedral to St Perter's House. This report summarises the findings of archaeological excavations undertaken at Bradford Cathedral on the 14th and 15th of August 1998, to determine if any sensitive archaeological deposits, including burials, would be affected by the contruction of the bridge at the point where the steps twould lead to the bridge. The investigation found fragmentary human remains and a range of medieval to 19th century material, however, all the deposits encountered to a depth of 1.1 metres were associated with made ground behind the existing retaining wall or the base for the existing paving slab pathway.
