Abstract:

The book establishes the first full-scale and detailed exploration of fictional dialogue in modern and contemporary fiction. It draws on the author's previous work, including a doctorate, previous book chapters and articles. The book is interdisciplinary in approach and sets out to challenge existing perceptions of dialogue as well as proposing a new methodology focusing on dialogue as interaction situated in a dynamic social and communicative context. The publication of the book confirm's the author's reputation internationally as a key theorist of dialogue particularly in the fields of English Literature, narrative studies and stylistics.
