Abstract:This chapter will summarize the current state of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in orthopedic surgery across procedures and suggest recommendations for the future development of ERAS within the specialty. The outcomes and implementation of ERAS for hip and knee arthroplasty will be considered in detail, with reference to the forthcoming ERAS Guidelines, and also suggestions for future research. The application of ERAS to other elective and emergency orthopedic procedures will then be considered, providing the reader with a synopsis of the current research for each procedure.
