Abstract:

This chapter explores two important aspects of tourism labor and employment, labor market structures and labor mobility. Set within the context of tourism labor, tourism labor market structures are at first discussed before attention turns to labor mobility, a key feature of tourism labor markets. Three issues and research areas in relation to labor mobility are then examined. These are tourism and labor migration, understanding migrant experiences, and labor mobility and human capital. Methodological developments in the field are then reviewed, followed by an examination of potential developments over the next decade.
