Abstract:

Eyewitness testimony plays an important role in the criminal legal system. Yet, research has shown that memory is fallible, and many wrongful convictions have resulted from mistaken eyewitness testimony. This chapter reviews some of the ways in which an individual’s memory of an event may be altered and consider the consequences of such alterations in legal contexts.
