Abstract:This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses solely on evaluation in sport and leisure was considered important for a field that has continually suffered legitimation and validity issues and is evolving and learning quickly from the practice of evaluation. It provides some clear insights into the progress of evaluation within sport and leisure policy over the last 20 or so years. Having established a sound socio/political and historical context for evaluation in sport and leisure Shearn introduced ‘whole-of-systems approaches’ to physical activity as a complex and dynamic area of sport and physical activity that has significant implications for evaluation. Social Return on Investment is an interesting and often underused evaluation tool.
