Abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic poses an ongoing challenge to Higher Education across the world. This paper argues that, to meet that challenge, the sector has no choice but to embrace the hybrid model that maintains the significant benefits of face-to-face teaching in real classrooms with quality digital delivery online. The role of employers, hitherto underplayed, is given prominence. Also, the steps taken by many universities and their staff to upskill and innovate during the pandemic are recognised. There is, however, a viable threat to institutions in the form of other online provision should they fail to embrace the new post-pandemic reality.
