Abstract:Increasing attention has been devoted to the relative role of Type 1 thinking (fast, intuitive) and Type 2 thinking (slow, deliberative) in cognitive psychology. This entry highlights theory relevant to the role of Type 1 and Type 2 thinking in creative cognition, drawing upon stage theories of creativity, as well as the role of shifting between the two types of thinking during the creative process.
