Abstract:

This chapter will look at communities of practice (CoP) as key enablers of diverse social capital and personal development. It will explore the importance of these spaces in a people-centred environment. Considering the humanising framework developed by Todres and colleagues in 2009, the chapter will explore ways in which each of the dimensions within the framework can be experienced in CoP, and how within this context CoP can enhance staff satisfaction, a sense of self, and even increase wellbeing. With a focus on developing a practice that considers head, hand, and heart, the chapter will explore ideas to embed a humanising approach within communities of practice to support teams and individuals to flourish and thrive.
