Abstract:Whilst understandings of environmental and economic sustainability of events are well established, it is claimed social sustainability remains under-explored. As a marginalised group, the queer community has been subjected to social exclusion, and there has been important work within the sport events sector to address this and improve the experience of these fans. This chapter presents the findings of qualitative research with queer sports fans to explore their experience of attending sport events in the UK and the role of sports supporter groups. Findings reveal the role supporter groups play in promoting inclusivity across fan communities and in liaising with clubs to promote inclusivity at a policy level whilst also acting as a safe space for sports fans, particularly those who may be new supporters.
