Abstract:

Open Access publishing represents a paradigm shift of treating knowledge as a public good, challenging traditional restrictions in academic publishing. It advocates for open access, emphasizing unrestricted and free access to scholarly research. There exist a number of open access models, which aim to provide increased accessibility to knowledge and enabled greater collaboration across academic communities. However, issues such as sustainability and resistance from traditional approaches to publishing create challenges for wholesale adoption of open access approaches. Open Educational Resources (OER) extending the open access model to teaching and learning highlighting their benefits in transforming education. Both represent positive change in fostering accessibility, collaboration, and transparency in the global dissemination of knowledge.
