Abstract:

The discipline of Information Science has its foundations in Information Theory and Database Systems. Information Science, rooted in mathematical principles and technological systems, aims to organize, retrieve, and provide meaningful access to information. It has had a significant impact upon the evolution of libraries in the digital age, particularly given the growth of the discipline of Information Retrieval in handling unstructured data., and subsequently the impact of the world web and search engines on information retrieval and accessibility. As technology advances and information volumes surge, the field׳s role becomes pivotal in addressing challenges and ensuring ethical practices, especially with the integration of Artificial Intelligence, particularly because of the rapid growth of Large Language Models.
