Abstract:Law schools in institutions of higher education may employ legal practitioners to provide additional teaching resource and expertise. In North America, such individuals are referred to as 'adjunct professors'. In other jurisdictions, some legal academics may be involved in legal practice, but hold full academic positions in the same way as career academics. Some former legal practitioners no longer take an active part in legal practice, but draw on their previous experience as legal practitioners in their teaching. As with individuals in other disciplines who have formerly performed practitioner roles, these individuals, now pursuing a career in academia, have come to be referred to as 'pracademics'.
