Abstract:

This chapter presents three case studies that focus on co-supervision, emphasising the importance of collaboration and flexibility. Pentaris explores a situation where differing supervisory styles, for example being focused on structure and deadlines or on emotional support and creativity, initially led to tension but ultimately resulted in a balanced, effective approach. Cahill reflects on over 20 years of experience, advocating for mutual respect, clear communication, and non-hierarchical environments in supervisory teams. Bendrups and Sanchez-Urribarri discuss the challenges and rewards of interdisciplinary co-supervision, highlighting the need for adaptation and respect across academic and cultural boundaries. These case studies demonstrate that successful co-supervision relies on ongoing reflection, open communication, and a collaborative mindset to support diverse students effectively.
