Abstract:Given the increase in mental health issues at university, this chapter will examine the complexity of academic roles. It will explore the importance of supporting academics to enhance their wellbeing as they support students and juggle their many responsibilities. The chapter will introduce important areas around mental health, resilience, roles, and responsibilities, and identify effective ways to protect staff wellbeing in Higher Education. Finally, this chapter will advocate for a collective reimagining of academia, moving from individualised notions of resilience towards the creation of resilient systems and compassionate communities to enable academics to thrive.
