Abstract:

This chapter will discuss the value of Research-Informed Teaching as a student-centred approach that combines theory with real-world practice. Drawing on pedagogical models, it will demonstrate how Research-Informed Teaching enhances students’ critical thinking, autonomy, and employability by embedding research content, methods, and activities within the learning process. The chapter will consider the dominant and alternative conceptualisations of Higher Education driven by managerialism and market forces, and present a balanced approach that supports intellectual development and societal engagement. Through personal reflection and practical examples, it will be argued that Research-Informed Teaching can humanise education by empowering students to become thoughtful and independent learners, and in so doing, enables academics to flourish.
